THE WINE HOUSE

The wine house, one of the first houses built on the Columbia River, in Vancouver, Washington, required a full renovation. The view was impeccable, and the house was worth saving, but it was in need of major repairs to breathe life into this historic home. We raised the ceiling and added faux beams to fully enjoy much needed height. We added the wood panelling throughout for a traditional and historic feel. We stained all the wood to give the space an old roaring 20’s feel. We installed new flooring and new lighting to bring added warmth to this old and future gathering place.

MAKE IT STAND OUT.

Originally, this historic home had only a wood burning stove. The owner was ready to upgrade and make the fireplace the added focal point the space deserved.  Once the river view room was complete, the kitchen and full bath followed. Clean, sleek, and fully custom, all while withholding decades of charm.

RIVER FRONT DECK

Two words: old and rotten. The original deck needed to come down. It was undersized for the property and offered no entertainment value.

CAPTURE THE BEAUTY.

With our customer’s help, we designed a deck that captured the beauty of the Columbia River, and the privacy to enjoy large group entertainment. Although this project was done out of our normal order of operations, the customer wanted to enjoy the deck first and would follow with a complete structure update.

Even if it makes a project more difficult, our aim is customer satisfaction. This Ipe deck is not only beautiful, the wood is also difficult to work with. It takes great care to avoid end splitting and defects in the workmanship. The deck needed to be stained on all sides and be given special treatment to all cuts. It took longer to install the zipper style deck layout than the demolition, concrete and framing together! All of the hand railing took considerable time to straighten, blind screw, and build. Ipe is a very hard wood with a fire rating. One of the only wood species that boasts those credentials.

MODERN FARM KITCHEN

We designed this farm kitchen to be both a functional place to process food and a beautiful space to enjoy family time. To achieve this, we had to combine the den and existing kitchen. With our extensive structural background, this was made possible by shoring the roof and ceiling and installing new footers, bearing posts, and beams. What posed the largest challenge was matching the existing ceiling texture! Joking—sort of.

KEEP THE FARM, MODERNIZE THE KITCHEN.

After demolition and the bearing walls were removed, we added new header supports to open up the kitchen to the rest of the farm, and to bring in much needed light to the space. We installed beautiful alder cabinets, a shiplap backsplash, concrete countertops, and finished off the design with top of the line appliances. We build in a way our families will enjoy and be proud of!

RANCH REMODEL

This beautiful home was suffering from pine overload. Don’t get us wrong, we love pine and all wood species. But sometimes, too much pine can feel outdated and be in serious need of an update of modern touches to fall in love with it all over again.

MAKE IT STAND OUT.

Here we removed the pine cabinets, crumbling island and linoleum flooring. We added the pantry and enclosed openings above the entry wall. We rearranged the kitchen layout to design a more ergonomic flow, and to take advantage of the view overlooking the property from the kitchen sink. We installed new cabinets. We added some reclaimed pops with a barn door and barn wood island we constructed from wood in our salvage collection. Finally, we finished it off with concrete countertops, a travertine backsplash, and 24 inch Brazilian slate floors. Still a ranch feel with a touch of modern elegance.
